Commemoration of the International Women’s Day 2018

International women’s day is commemorated on the 8th of March each year globally. It is a day to amplify the successes and achievements of women. It’s used to call on government commitment to address challenges and barriers facing women socially, economically, politically and culturally.
The 2018 international theme was “push for progress”. Following the international theme Hodari Tanzania Ltd and LECRI Consult brought together 100 women and young girls to discuss on “Rights and obligation to advance women’s rights”. This was meant to create awareness of the laws and rights that promote and protect women, to enable the use of the existing frameworks to advance in social and economic spheres.
During the event a number of presentations were made from Ms. Imelda Lulu Urrio Lead Consultant of Hodari Tanzania Ltd on Rights and Obligations. Ms Edna Kamaleki Lead Consultant LECRI Consult on legal frameworks. Gender based violence redress mechanisms presentations were done on Health and GBV by Dr Job and from the Ilala Social welfare officers on the services available for survivors of GBV.
There were also question and answer sessions in plenary. Participants got to discuss on issues presented and got clarifications. The event was held in partnership with the British Council, LAPF Dar es Salaam Zonal Office and NMB Bank House Branch.
As a wayforward, it was agreed, more efforts need to be done to reach more women. The need to increase information and knowledge on womens rights and avalible avenue to enable them to reach their full potentials.
